Send the current civil drawings and any survey or existing-service information held by the project team. If a connection or route is still being designed, say so. We can work from the information available, but it needs to be visible in the price.

Stormwater and detention

Stormwater work can include pipework, pits, chambers, detention elements and site connections. It often meets roadworks, landscaping, building drainage and finished site levels.

Show the controlling civil drawings and the proposed outlet or connection point. If a detention area, road or landscaped zone has to be built first, include it in the programme. That work can control when the stormwater run goes in.

Pits, manholes and chambers

Pits, manholes and access chambers can form part of water, sewer or stormwater work. Drawing references, levels, site access and adjacent work all affect how they are built. Include those details with the enquiry.

Civil infrastructure covers site water, sewer and stormwater associated with a construction project, subdivision or building connection. The agreed package sets the route, connections and actual inclusions.

Internal building plumbing and drainage sit under commercial plumbing and commercial drainage. Fire infrastructure is handled through fire hydrant and ring-main construction. Get the ground conditions into the brief

A civil plan is a start. We also need to know what the site is actually like.

Send the survey, service-location information and any photos that show an access problem or existing service. Tell us about live services, tight entries, traffic control, restricted work areas and work another trade has to finish first. If excavation, dewatering, spoil removal or reinstatement belongs to another package, mark that out.

For a tie-in, show the proposed location and the timing. Existing service information can be incomplete or out of date. Don’t bury that issue in a broad tender request. Put it up front so it can be allowed for or dealt with before the crew gets to site.

The same goes for levels. A route that works on a drawing still has to work against the survey, finished levels and building connection.
